Janina Grabs has been Professor of Sustainability Research at the University of Basel since June 2024. She heads the Sustainability Research Department and is responsible for social science teaching in the Master's programme in Sustainable Development. Prior to this, she worked as an assistant professor at ESADE Business School in Barcelona (2021-2024) and as a postdoctoral researcher at ETH Zurich (2019-2021). She received her PhD in political science from the University of Münster in 2018. Her research focuses on the governance of sustainability in global value chains, with a particular emphasis on tropical agricultural commodities such as coffee and palm oil. She is particularly interested in the implementation of policy measures and their impact on the promotion of environmentally and socially sustainable production practices, the inclusion of smallholder farmers, and social justice within the value chain.
